You've been given a scholarship.

Ironically, once you've received a scholarship, your worries don't stop there. Perhaps you were given one because you are a high achiever. You may have also received good grades thus far. Perhaps the scholarship was given to you because your financial position qualifies you. Whatever the reason, there is a lot of pressure to keep your grades up and not disappoint your family, the scholarship sponsor, or yourself.

Many scholarship recipients suffer from a condition known as 'imposter syndrome.' Students may assume that their accomplishments or achievements are undeserved because they do not believe they possess the essential qualities or talent.

Students believe they are a phony and that someone would one day uncover the "truth," that they are not good enough. Many students also suffer from perfectionism, in which they establish unrealistically high criteria for themselves and judge themselves based on their ability to meet those standards.

Being a perfectionist and experiencing 'imposter syndrome' can both place a strain on your mental health and well-being. However, there are several things that can help. Discuss your feelings with a friend or a mentor. This can make you feel less alone, and you may discover that others, particularly fellow scholarship students, feel the same way.

Finally, perfection does not exist and is an impossible objective to achieve. Scholarship recipients are not required to excel in all aspects of their lives or studies. Avoid comparing yourself to others by focusing on doing your best and being good enough. We're all somewhat unique.

Remember that scholarships do not cover the entire cost of your education. They may assist with tuition, housing, and/or books, but they do not cover all expenses. You and/or your family are still under the burden of having to pay for those things. You can work to help afford these extras if your student visa allows it.
